REPORT ON FEBRUARY 2014 DENTAL MISSION

A TEAM OF 4 DENTISTS FROM DENMARK, GERMANY AND USA JOINED US AND GAVE FREE TREATMENT FOR 3 WEEKS!

We just completed the Dental Mission which ran for 3 weeks. 5 days in Camoboan, Tabogon, which is the typhoon hit area. We treated the elementary school children at the Camoboan elementary school. Then we went on to the institution down town Cebu City called “The Good Samaritan”. They focus on helping street kids and needy elderly. The second half of that week, we set up the clinic in a mountain barangay, Sudlon, treating the people from the community, and the last week our clinic was set up at Rise Above Clinic in Guadalupe, Cebu City where 2 days were reserved for the community, and the second half of the week, we had invited street kids from DSWD Mandaue City, and they brought the children in, having arranged activities with them and feeding them, while our team took care of the treatment. It was a wonderful 3 weeks, and our foreign dentists were all very happy and satisfied with their stay here in the Philippines. Dr. Christoph Röth said:”This is the best thing we have ever done. Working together with Rise Above was so good as everything was provided. It was worth coming.” It is nice for us to see the dentists happy and satisfied, and that they felt that spending so much money to come here and help the needy Filipinos was worth it.

Dr. Christoph Roth, Dr. Anne-Marie Kaczmarek (hidden) came from Berlin,  Dr. Gry Hegelund from Denmark (second right) and Dr. Don Salera from USA far right. In the front, Marie is running the dispensary, and volunteers from Camoboan are assisting.

Camoboan Elementary School It was such a blessing to treat all these sweet kids at Camoboan Elementary School. Camoboan is in Tabogon, on the north east side of Cebu Island and was badly hit by the Super-Typhoon Yolanda. This school lost their Home Economics building – it can be repaired, and Rise Above is in the process of getting the quotation of cost, to fix it. One of our friends has sponsored the repair of the building. Their toilet building lost the roof, so that is also on the “To Do” list.

We also set up the clinic at Rise Above Community Center, where we treated people living around the center as well as the street children from DSWD Mandaue. The Danish pedagogy interns had done a wonderful job in preparing the children and teens for their visit at the dentist, and they were there to encourage them and hold their hand to calm them, as some were scared.

With a wonderful team and partners in different areas, we completed a successful mission.

We treated 426 patients, Restored 721 teeth and extracted 458.

TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
