We had some visitors come over during the graduation. We had two Danish nutritionist students come over.  We also had Johanna, a German volunteer, Karin, our Swiss volunteer, and Helena, our Danish volunteer.

We started with giving this certificate of appreciation to Helena as she worked tirelessly for the kids at the Family Care Center and the library for more than a month. She also sponsored two feedings that fed a total of 800 kids.

The children presented a song and dance to the tune of "Head and Shoulders, Knees and Toes."

The kids then sang and danced for the visitors and their parents. These are the kids ages 3-4 years old.

It was then followed by the distribution of the medals and ribbons; the part that the kids were looking forward to.

There were awards from first to fifth honor, then special awards like most active, most kind, most behave, most participative, among other.

Then followed the obligatory photo shoots of Family Care Center staff and the kids. We also took pictures of the kids with their parent and/or guardians.

As it was also Helena’s last day at the center, she bought some gifts for the kids. The kids were fascinated as they saw toys, dresses and other stuff in their bags.

Helena also brought gifts for the kids.

We, then shared a delicious meal prepared by Carmelita and the mothers.

Cathy made a donation for the meal comprised of spaghetti, meatballs, iced tea and cupcakes.

It was an amazing event.

These kids come from poor families within the area. The Family Care Center provides basic, preparatory education for these kids that they will be ready for grade school. Another goal of the Family Care Center, under the Rise Above Foundation Cebu, is to look for sponsors that could help these kids study from grade school and hopefully, through college.
