In the past year, most of Rise Above’s programs have been put on hold but we were able to continue reaching out to those in need through the Food Sharing Program, Educational Sponsorship Program, Livelihood Program and Gift-Giving Program through your care and generosity. Before we finally leave the year 2020 behind, allow us to thank YOU for responding to our call to make a difference with us and for others on the last month of the challenging year that has been.
Because of you, December remains to be the most wonderful time of the year! Here are some of the memories we wish to carry with us as we move forward to what lies ahead:
It has been a difficult time for the student beneficiaries of the Educational Sponsorship Program who had to transition to distance learning, rely on learning modules to stay on track with their studies, and experience a lockdown and a pandemic at a young age. We personally thank our friends from La Plage Club and Asmara Urban Resort for giving them an opportunity to once again experience simply being kids having fun on a normal day. For the food, games, and gifts, thank you on behalf of our kids!
We extend our outmost gratitude to the kind hearts of these children’s sponsors, not only for continuing to support their education in the midst of a pandemic but for also helping put food on their table, especially since a lot of parents and family breadwinners have lost their jobs last year. We also thank all our friends and partners who have chosen to celebrate their Christmas with us and send gifts to our children who thought there wouldn’t be any “Christmas” for them in 2020. Christmas became special because of you!
Hearts and stomachs were filled as we were able to share a hot meal to the families at Sambag 2, Guadalajara, Guadalupe, with the help of our friends, Charline and Marc, who could not make it to the Philippines last year for their annual Christmas Food Sharing due to the pandemic. Your presence with us was still very much felt by all the families who were able to have a decent meal because you continued to care for them despite the distance.
And lastly, it is through your generous donation, big and small, that the tradition of Christmas Gift-Giving for the poorest of the poor still lives on. A BIG THANKS TO YOU! Your gifts surely made Christmas Merry for “kids from 1 to 92” in Cebu!
