Capturing the Beauty of Life
Written by Dionne Cabanos (UP DevComm Intern)
This girl hopes to capture the beauty of nature through her lenses. She dreams of traveling the world and she actually have her bucket list!
The oldest of three children, Chrisna Gurrea is 13 years old. She has two younger siblings, Christian, 9, and Christina, 5.
Her parents are both workers. Her mother is a burial assistant while her father delivers tires at Mandaue City, Cebu. Their grandfather is also living with them.
Chrisna is fascinated with other cultures and wants to experience it for herself. After she visits London(the top of her bucket list), she said she will tour around the Philippines to see the breathtaking views and scenery the country has to offer.
She is currently in 7th grade at Ramon Duterte National High School; a school just near the family care center.
Chrisna visits the center everyday to do her homework, taking the privilege of free computer and internet usage in the newly installed computer study hall.
Chrisna has been part of the education sponsorship program of Rise Above Foundation Cebu since she was 8 years old. Her brother, Christian, is also part of the program and he is now in 4th grade.
With less than minimum and unsteady income of their parents, there is a financial burden in sending the kids to school.
Through the free lunch and snacks, school materials, uniforms and other things that the foundation is helping them, Chrisna’s parents are relieved of this burden. The children are also happy in their studies and are doing great as they don’t have to think about what to eat and what to wear as they go to school.
Now, all they need to do is concentrate on getting good grades and excelling for their future.
The educational sponsorship program is really changing lives. It is giving student more freedom to focus on their study and do great in school, without the financial burden.
They can perform better because they are not hungry. This is what the sponsorship is providing these kids.
