Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda)
With gusts of wind reaching 350 km/hr there was nothing people could do but wait and see if anything was left of their homes after the storm passed. Many had taken shelter in the local school, while others, who couldn’t make it thought their lives would end.
Gina told us this story: The only solid thing in her little house was her sink, so she crouched in under the sink with a baby at her breast and holding the 3 other children tight as the storm first ripped the roof off the house, then the walls flew away as well as all their belongings. After 4 hours, when the wind started to die down, they saw a house still standing in the distance and ran all the way, soaked through and cold. She said she would never forget that terrible day of November 8, 2013.
Everywhere houses were broken and families had lost everything they owned. But the people in Camoboan, Tabogon, North Cebu were happy to be alive. Through 2014, we have received sponsoring from companies and individuals, making it possible for us to build almost 100 houses in North Cebu. But the need is still a big one as people just do not have the means to build themselves a new house. So many live in the ruins of their own homes with additional corrugated roof sheets trying to keep the rain out. It is pitiful!
Often we see people sitting in their house under an umbrella to prevent from getting wet and cold.
We need to take action in situations like this, and want to send a heartfelt plea to you to partner with us so we can continue to help these very unfortunate people!
What can you do to help?
For only US$ 1,100, you can give a house to a needy family! You will give them a safe house they can call their home, and the children can do their homework in a dry and cozy house. You give them not only a house, but self respect and hope for a better future for their family.
Your gift is appreciated!
TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
