On September 30, 2025, Cebu was struck by a magnitude 6.9 earthquake, followed by more than 2,300 aftershocks recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS-DOST) as of October 2. The devastation has been immense: schools and homes have collapsed, a thousand injured, and the fatalities have reached 72.
