It is such a blessing for us when teams of volunteers come in and help in the work that we do. And for this year, the number of volunteers increased! What a wonderful year it is!
Earlier this year, we collaborated with Zeke, a school coordinator in China. The school wants to send Chinese volunteers to immerse in the community and learn the culture while they are in the Philippines. And they saw that Rise Above Foundation Cebu is a good venue to do that.
Last week, the first batch of the volunteers came and spent 5 days at the Rise Above Community Center. They did a lot of activities with the kids and even learned how to make the RecyBags, our bag making livelihood program.
The team sponsored two feeding programs. They cooked for 400 children living in the poor area beside the Community Center as well as in another slum area in Guadalupe, Cebu City
For two consecutive days, our RecyBags weavers also gave basic lessons to the volunteers on how to weave RecyBags. It’s a souvenir that they can bring home to China after the 5-day long immersion.
Overall, it was a short time, but we believe and hope that this experience will encourage more volunteers to come and make a difference with us! If you have the passion for volunteering and making other people’s lives better, please contact us. You can send us an email at riseabove@riseabove-cebu.org or visit us at 252, I.Limkakeng St., Happy Valley Subd., V. Rama Ave., Cebu City.
Here’s a short video of them saying goodbye after 5 days.
Together we can make a difference!
