For about 2 years now, most of Rise Above Foundation Cebu’s (RAFC) programs have been suspended due to the continuing effects of the COVID crisis. It has affected many people’s lives, who, with their meagre or no income have had to find ways to survive.
RAFC carries on in assisting families and communities in need through the Educational Sponsorship, Food Sharing, Livelihood and Gift-Giving Programs. Thanks to the donors who paved the way for these initiatives to continue.
Food Sharing and Education Sponsorships Programs are the top initiatives completed. The Gift- Giving and Handicap Support projects are also supported by major donors this year 2021.
As we celebrate the most wonderful time of the year, the Season of Sharing, we hope to continue the traditional Christmas Gift-Giving for the poorest of the poor here in Cebu. This 2021, RAFC aims to surprise families with a “Christmas Aid Package” which costs 100 USD each for goods and gifts. The grocery items like rice, meat, cooking oil, flour and canned goods, to name a few, will surely complete a good meal to celebrate Christmas. Lastly, an envelope with a cash donation will make it possible for the parents to buy Christmas gifts for their children, or even make a needed repair on their little house.
This started in Christmas 2007 when the Rise Above team started distributing Christmas gifts to impoverished families in the slum areas of Cebu City. This year, we aim to continue the mission to “Make a difference in the life of a poor family on Christmas.”
It is said that Christmas is the “children’s celebration,” but many children in the slums do not experience Christmas as something extraordinary.
Help us bring the spirit of Christmas joy and hope into the homes of needy families who struggle to survive day by day. Let’s make this season a meaningful time of sharing and loving! There is still time to partake in the Christmas Gift Giving program.
